And Now For Something Completely Different
Most of you have probably heard by now, but Monty Python’s classic Life of Brian has just been rereleased theatrically. It’s basically touring the nation as, in essence, counterprogramming to The Passion. If you haven’t seen it, I cannot be more explicit in my recommendation that you run out and do so at the earliest possible opportunity. Is it politically incorrect? Tasteless? Downright offensive? Hell, yes. But it’s also one of the funniest, most biting satires of religious zealotry I’ve ever seen. For a quick taste, check out Apple’s movie trailers page, where they’ve got not only the trailer, but an exclusive clip as well. Or check out the picture’s signature song, “Always Look On the Bright Side of Life,” at the iTunes Music Store.
I’m reminded of it right now after receiving a missive from my old high school crony Orrin Bloquy (to pick just one of his noms de plume), who passed along a link to Eric Idle’s new composition, “The FCC Song.” The intro: “Here’s a little song I wrote the other day while I was out duck hunting with a judge... It’s a new song, it’s dedicated to the FCC and if they broadcast it, it will cost a quarter of a million dollars.”
Go grab it now — but be warned: It’s not exactly broadcast- (or office-) safe. That’s kind of the point.
