Share the Love... Now, Dammit!
So I guess Comedy Central’s doing a “Standup Showdown” competition, where people can vote online for their favorite comedian, and then they’ll count down the top 25 in a special on January 30th.
And at the moment, Patton Oswalt isn’t even in the top 25! WTF?
Okay, there are some talented folks on that list — Lewis Black and Dave Attell both make appearances — but come on! (And what’s with all of the “Last Comic Standing” alumni? Sure, they’re okay, but you know the only reason they’re on there is because of that damn show. You know, the one that was canceled right before the final episode.)
So here’s what you need to do: Go to the site and vote for Patton. Once every day (the limit to what’s allowed). Hell, he merits a nod solely on the basis of being a dedicated friend to the online and broader geek communities — not to mention this very site (well, in a roundabout sort of way). But even ignoring that completely, he’s one of the funniest bastards on the planet. Which, I suppose, is what the competition’s really supposed to be about.
And be absolutely sure to tell other people to vote as well (I’ll avoid the spamtastic slogan “Tell everyone you know,” but you get the idea). I don’t pretend that my readership is enough to swing the vote, but if we all work together, we can make a difference.
I don’t know why I get all fired up about it — after all, Patton probably doesn’t give a rat’s ass about it — but dammit, it’s the principle of the thing. Gotta stick up for my peeps.
(Of course, if you really want to show your support, go buy his album — either Feelin’ Kinda Patton if you want the short-and-sweet version, or 222 if you want the full, uncut, uncensored show. Needless to say, I have both.)
