Officially Leaving the Mouse House
Well, countering news that Miramax will likely be retaining its leadership, it looks like the Disney/Pixar partnership is definitively kaput.
Oh, Disney’s going ahead with its creatively bankrupt (but no doubt commercially viable) version of Toy Story 3, for which it’s established its own 3-D animation studio. It remains to be seen whether or not they’ll be able to attract the (now) top-name talent without Pixar (I’m guessing no), but I think it’s a foregone conclusion that it’ll suck regardless. The kids will eat it up just because it’s Toy Story, but it will induce vomiting among adults.
It’s a shame that Pixar will lose the Disney marketing machine, but Disney is by far the biggest loser in all of this.
